Jenis-Jenis Pola atau Aturan Membuat Bentuk Past dari Regular Verbs

1. Menambahkan -ed untuk base form verb yang mengandung dua konsonan berturut-turut pada bagian akhir kata kerja, contoh:
- Jump > Jumped
- Paint > Painted
- Bump > Bumped
2. Jika sebuah verb memiliki akhiran yang susunannya konsonan-vokal-konsonan, maka huruf konsonan terakhir harus digandakan, lalu ditambahkan ‘ed’. See the example below:

3. Apabila sebuah verb berakhiran ‘w’, ‘x’, dan ‘y’, maka aturan nomor dua tidak berlaku, alias huruf akhir dari kata kerja yang asli jangan digandakan, cukup tambah ‘ed’ saja. Contoh:
- Sew > Sewed
- Play > Played
- Fix > Fixed
4. Kamu menemukan kata kerja yang berakhiran huruf ‘e’? Gampang, kamu hanya perlu menambahkan akhiran ‘d’ pada akhir verb untuk mengubahnya menjadi verb 2 dan verb 3. Lihat contoh di bawah ini:

5. Jika kata kerjanya berakhiran huruf konsonan + ‘y’, ingat untuk ubah ‘y’ menjadi ‘i’ , lalu disusul dengan tambahan ‘ed’. Misalnya:
- Cry > Cried
- Try > Tried
- Fry > Fried
6. Nah, ini berhubungan dengan stressed atau penekanan saat mengucapkan sebuah kata kerja. Jika suku kata terakhir dari sebuah kata kerja harus ditekan, kemudian ia diakhiri dengan huruf konsonan-vokal-konsonan, maka konsonan terakhir harus di-double lalu ditambah ‘ed’. Misal:
- Incur > Incurred
- Prefer > Preferred
7. Hampir mirip dengan poin sebelumnya, kalau kamu ingin menggunakan bentuk lampau dari kata kerja yang suku kata pertamanya harus diberi tekanan, lalu akhir verb-nya yaitu konsonan-vokal-konsonan, cukup tambahkan saja ‘ed’ tanpa harus menggandakan huruf konsonan akhir. Contoh:

Cara membedakan regular verb dan irregular verb sangatlah mudah. Kamu hanya perlu menghafal daftar kata kerja yang termasuk irregular verb. Nah, untuk daftar sisanya masuk sebagai regular verb.
Kapan Regular Verb Digunakan?
Regular verb berbentuk verb 1 (base form) dapat digunakan untuk kalimat present tense atau future tense, verb 2 digunakan untuk simple past tense, dan verb 3 berlaku untuk present perfect tense, past perfect tense, dan past future perfect tense beserta passive voice.

Jenis-Jenis Pola atau Aturan Membuat Bentuk Past dari Regular Verbs
Ingat, kita bisa memastikan apakah suatu kata kerja termasuk regular verbs atau regular verbs dengan melihat dari bentuk verb 2 (past tense) dan verb 3-nya (past participle).
Nah, sama seperti irregular verbs yang memiliki berbagai pola saat akan diubah ke verb 2 dan verb 3, regular verb pun bisa kamu bentuk melalui berbagai cara dan aturan yang berlaku. Simak penjelasannya di bawah ini!
1. Menambahkan -ed untuk base form verb yang mengandung dua konsonan berturut-turut pada bagian akhir kata kerja, contoh:
- Jump > Jumped
- Paint > Painted
- Bump > Bumped
2. Jika sebuah verb memiliki akhiran yang susunannya konsonan-vokal-konsonan, maka huruf konsonan terakhir harus digandakan, lalu ditambahkan ‘ed’. See the example below:
- Chat > Chatted
- Stop > Stopped
- Crop > Cropped

3. Apabila sebuah verb berakhiran ‘w’, ‘x’, dan ‘y’, maka aturan nomor dua tidak berlaku, alias huruf akhir dari kata kerja yang asli jangan digandakan, cukup tambah ‘ed’ saja. Contoh:
- Sew > Sewed
- Play > Played
- Fix > Fixed
4. Kamu menemukan kata kerja yang berakhiran huruf ‘e’? Gampang, kamu hanya perlu menambahkan akhiran ‘d’ pada akhir verb untuk mengubahnya menjadi verb 2 dan verb 3. Lihat contoh di bawah ini:
- Thrive > Thrived
- Move > Moved
- Solve > Solved
5. Jika kata kerjanya berakhiran huruf konsonan + ‘y’, ingat untuk ubah ‘y’ menjadi ‘i’ , lalu disusul dengan tambahan ‘ed’. Misalnya:
- Cry > Cried
- Try > Tried
- Fry > Fried
6. Nah, ini berhubungan dengan stressed atau penekanan saat mengucapkan sebuah kata kerja. Jika suku kata terakhir dari sebuah kata kerja harus ditekan, kemudian ia diakhiri dengan huruf konsonan-vokal-konsonan, maka konsonan terakhir harus di-double lalu ditambah ‘ed’. Misal:
- Incur > Incurred
- Prefer > Preferred
7. Hampir mirip dengan poin sebelumnya, kalau kamu ingin menggunakan bentuk lampau dari kata kerja yang suku kata pertamanya harus diberi tekanan, lalu akhir verb-nya yaitu konsonan-vokal-konsonan, cukup tambahkan saja ‘ed’ tanpa harus menggandakan huruf konsonan akhir. Contoh:
